SEATTLE - Mayor Greg Nickels announced today his plan to create a motorcycle medic team in 2008. Under the mayor’s budget proposal, Seattle firefighter paramedics will take to the streets on motorcycles for a two-year pilot program to study the effectiveness of such a medic team. Other cities, such as Miami and Pittsburgh, have found motorcycles are able to get through congested traffic faster than ambulances or medic units, thereby speeding response to emergencies.

Adaptive Eyewear

An elegant, inexpensive solution to a global problem: Adaptive Eyewear has created a pair of glasses that can be altered to adjust to almost any corrective settings. The glasses work by injecting or removing fluid from the lens, thus altering the focus. The glasses were invented by Dr. Joshua Silver, and the company mission is to fulfill the vision correction needs of underserved populations in the developing world.
