The AmbiCycle is a patent-pending device for the nimble and rapid transport of a patient. The purpose of the device is to augment traditional means of patient movement for remote or rural settings, dense urban environments where normal traffic flow is impaired, third world use lacking infrastructure, disaster settings (hurricane evacuations, mass casualty), and battlefield use.

SEATTLE - Mayor Greg Nickels announced today his plan to create a motorcycle medic team in 2008. Under the mayor’s budget proposal, Seattle firefighter paramedics will take to the streets on motorcycles for a two-year pilot program to study the effectiveness of such a medic team. Other cities, such as Miami and Pittsburgh, have found motorcycles are able to get through congested traffic faster than ambulances or medic units, thereby speeding response to emergencies.

This past November, I traveled with 5 others to Kampala, Uganda to work with New Hope Orphanage and Mengo Hospital (the first hospital built in Uganda). Lectures on Advanced Trauma Life Support, Advanced Cardical Life Support and Advanced Pediatric Life Support were given at Mengo Hospital.

At an impromptu church clinic, approximately 100 patients were seen in 4 hours.

Lots more education is needed along with basic medical equipment. The need for an IV infusion pump is great and a main request by the physicians at Mengo.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://positivemotion.org/home/2008/11/6/am-students-make-ambulance-cart.html"><rss:title>A&M Students Make Ambulance Cart</rss:title><rss:link>http://positivemotion.org/home/2008/11/6/am-students-make-ambulance-cart.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

The Bioengineering students from Texas A&M University have been working with us to create a version of the motorcycle ambulance. Noticing the lack available transportation for people who are sick or injured, I began sketching out a motorcycle pulling a modified stretcher. Some of the top items included an ECG machine and IV infusion pumps.

Upon returning to the US, I contacted the Bioengineering Department at Texas A&M and began work on creating a design.
